Abstract

Developing countries in the Asia Pacific region hold a unique position in the international climate negotiations. Together, they constitute some of the largest future economics in the world.Although current per capita emissions are small compared to developed countries, the region witnesses the highest growth rates in current and future greenhouse gas emissions, as a result of its rapidly industrialising economics.Over the past year, the region has witnessed intensified research and discussion among and within countries on the key issues to be negotiated at the Sixth Conference of the Parties under the Framework Convention on Climate Change. This book presents a snapshot of different perspectives on climate issues, and it explains what is at stake for Asia Pacific region countries at the COP-6 negotiations. The sample of countries includes Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines, Pacific Island Countries, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
