Abstract

Land use change could not be avoided due to development for human welfare; how- ever its change should be monitored to control environmental degradation. Land use change modeling has been introduced to predict future pattern of change. Con- version of land use change and its effect at small regional extent (CLUE-S) is one of the versatile tools that can predict future land use changes. In this study, CLUE-S was applied in Bandung region. The dependent variable was land use which was disaggregated into 7 classes (water, forest, others, built area, plantation, dry land, and rice field). The independent variables were social economic, biophysical, acces- sibility and climatology aspects. CLUE-S modeling in Bandung region was conducted with 2 scenarios which were determined by land use history. Population density be- came a major factor of land use change model; it was showed that this factor influ- enced all of land use types. The result of the modeling showed that second scenario would be more optimal than first scenario. Then, second scenario showed that for- est area would be 11 percent, and the area of rice field would achieve 5 percent of the area.
